EPISODE 01

A Stone is Pulling My Hand?!
The Future of 3DHaptics

This is the laboratory of Denshi-land's “genius scientist,” the Professor.

It looks like the two electronic spirits: the Capacitor and Inductor have come from next door to play in Professor's room.

Capacitor

Hello!

Inductor

Professor, are you here?

Professor

Guh! Arghhh!

Inductor

Whoa! What's going on?!

Professor

Urgh, ow...

Capacitor

Professor, are you all right?!

Professor

My medicine... Get my medicine!

Capacitor

What medicine?

Inductor

This room is too messy for us to find anything!

Professor

Use this... *thud*

Capacitor

Professor!

Inductor

What did he give you?

Capacitor

A stone...?It looks like it's vibrating.

Inductor

What are we supposed to do with a stone...?Anyway, we need to hurry and look for the medicine!

Capacitor

Oh yeah, that's right!Hmm, is it over here?

Stone

(*Stone vibrating*)

Capacitor

Whoa! The stone is pulling me to the right!

Inductor

The stone is pulling you?!

Capacitor

I think it's trying to tell me something.

Maybe it's inside this fridge over here?

Stone

(*Vibrating more intensely*)

Capacitor

It's pulling me to the left now!

Is it this desk?

Stone

(*Vibrating softly*)

Capacitor

The vibration is getting weaker.

Inductor

Does that mean the medicine is in this desk?

How could a stone tell me something like that...?

Capacitor

(*Rummaging through the desk*)

I found it! This must be it.

The two gave the medicine to Professor.

......

Professor regained his strength after a while!

Professor

Whew, that was a close call.

I was pretty close to never inventing anything ever again.

Thanks, Capacitor and Inductor!

Capacitor

So what happened?

Professor

Hmm.

I was eating a piece of cake from the back of the fridge. But it turns out that the cake expired over a year ago.

Inductor

......

How about making an expiration date sensor before inventing anything else?

Capacitor

Forget that! Anyway, your stone was amazing!

It pulled my hand to tell me where the medicine was.

Professor

Oh ho ho! Isn't it quite something? This is an invention that will improve the future for everyone...

It's the Wonder Stone!

Inductor

The future of society... Is it really that amazing as an invention?

Professor

Yes.

A fellow researcher from another world asked if they could borrow it the other day.

It's going to be used at an event known as Expo 2025.

Officially known as Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.

The event will bring together many technologies and ideas from all over the world!

Professor

Apparently, it’s another place with areas that the stone will guide you through.

Capacitor

I can't believe it... Using a stone as a guide...

How does it work?

Professor

Very well, let me explain in my laboratory!

The three left Professor's room and moved to the laboratory......

The secret behind how it pulls your hand is hidden in the brain!

Professor

Ahem. Now, I'll explain the secret behind how the stone pulls your hand.

Although in reality, the stone wasn't actually pulling your hand. The stone was just vibrating.

Capacitor

What? It sure felt like I was being pulled to the right and left.

Professor

That's exactly it.

The stone was stimulating your hand in a way that made your brain think your hand was being pulled!

Inductor

It can do that?!

Professor

Yes. The brain is actually quite easy to trick.

Capacitor

Why would it feel like it was pulling me when it was just vibrating...?

Professor

There's a trick to how it was vibrating. This is “3DHaptics” the technology that recreates a realistic sensation using the power of neuroscience!

With more research, it may become possible to recreate other sensations besides pulling.

The sense of touching something rough like a piece of brick. The sense of walking on something soft like a sandy beach.

Those kinds of sensations should be possible some day by changing how we stimulate the brain.

Capacitor

Wow!

Inductor

Wait, hold on.I get that the stone tricked the brain into thinking it was being pulled by stimulating my hand.

But the stone guided me to where the medicine was by pulling me left and right. How did it do that?

Professor

That's a good question.

It's true that vibrating isn’t enough on its own to be a guide. The stone is using a different technology at the same time to accomplish that.

It's an LF antenna.

Capacitor

An LF antenna?!

The stone responds to the LF antenna's magnetic field to show the correct way!

Professor

There are multiple LF antennas in my room. You can think of it like I’ve placed LF antennas to create a path.

The LF antennas have the ability to create “magnetic fields.”

Inductor

Oh! I've heard of magnetic fields. They’re how magnets work, right?

Professor

Yes, and you’re good with magnetism, Inductor.

Professor

This stone can tell where it’s at by detecting magnetic fields.

That's why it can respond immediately when going the wrong way and vibrate to indicate the correct way.

Inductor

So if I go too far to the right, it will vibrate to tell me to go left!

Professor

The practice and application of inventions and technologies like this will create a bright society in the future!

Inductor

So there might be more ways that we can use this?

Professor

Of course! How about using it at train stations or city halls, for example?

A blind person can walk to their destination without worries if they are guided through the vibrations.Of course, they might make it a cane instead of a stone in cases like that. There are all sorts of uses for it!

Inductor

Wow, you're right. That's a great idea!

Professor

It might be useful in video games as well!We already have controllers that vibrate, but there may be more realistic sensations in the future.

It might feel like you're actually touching items or walking around in the world.

Capacitor

Professor sure likes his video games...

Professor

Ahem.

There are so many different ways we can utilize 3DHaptics.Let's all think of different ways to utilize them!

Experience 3DHaptics at Expo 2025!

Inductor

So I can touch one of these stones directly if I go to Expo 2025?

Professor

That's right!Expo 2025 will be held at a place called “Yumeshima.”

Professor

The Wonder Stones will be used at the signature pavilion called “Better Co-Being.”

It is a space where you can experience the resonance between nature and all sorts of people.

Capacitor

That sounds really fun!

Hey, are there other inventions being used at Expo 2025?

Professor

Yep, there are a few!

Inductor

Tell me about them! I'm curious.

Professor

Oh, okay, of course.

......It's just that I'm very close to finishing this VR game.I'll tell you about it once I'm done. (*Clicking*)

Capacitor

Aww, he put on the headset and started playing video games. How boring.

Inductor

Hey! Professor!Play your video game after we're done here!(*Slap, slap*)

Capacitor

Come on, I want to know more!(*Shake, shake*)

Professor

Whoa!? What is this intense sensation on my back?!

My body is shaking!

This is unbelievably realistic!Does this game also use 3DHaptics?!
