EPISODE 04

Detecting Your Body's Condition?!
The Future of Vitals Sensors

A few days have passed since Capacitor and Inductor left to search for the “tickets to Yumeshima.”

The doors to Professor's laboratory open once again.

Capacitor

Hello...

Inductor

Professor... Are you here...?

Professor

(*Humming*)

Inductor

Hey, what's this? Why are you packing?

Professor

(*Surprised*)

Oh, I just have to go somewhere for a bit...

Capacitor

Professor, going somewhere? You don't see that too often.

Professor

Oh?

Capacitor and Inductor? You seem to be feeling down.

Inductor

What?!

Capacitor

How did you know?!

Professor

I saw the response on the “vitals sensor” right there. It's showing something different than usual for you two.

Inductor

What's a vitals sensor?!

It can check if you're healthy by measuring breathing and heartbeats?!

Professor

To put it simply, this sensor lets you check how your body is doing.Humans send out all sorts of signals even when they're not doing anything.

Things like breathing and your heartbeat.

The vitals sensor catches these small signals and interprets them as data!

Capacitor

I've never really thought about my heartbeat!

Inductor

I guess it's true that my body's condition can change depending on how I'm feeling, like my heart beating faster when I'm nervous.

Professor

That's right!

Depending on the data it picks up, it can analyze things like “this person is feeling relaxed” or “this person seems tired.”

Inductor

You can tell your heart is beating and your blood is pulsing if you place your hands on your chest or wrist.

Capacitor

That's amazing that a sensor can also measure them!

Professor

Of course, the way we experience stress or fatigue depends on the individual. It used to be difficult to turn these feelings into numbers.

But as time went on and we gathered more data, we've been able to figure things out a bit.

Add the advancement of sensor technologies to that, and we are now able to gather data easily!

Technology to detect brain waves?!

Professor

Vitals aren't the only thing sensors can detect now.

The latest technological advances lets us measure “brain waves” as well!

Capacitor

Br-Brain waves?!

Inductor

...What're those?!

Professor

Human brains actually send out electric signals that are like waves.

Capacitor

Whaaat?!

Professor

We now know that brain waves also change depending on the body's condition.

Brain waves change when we're sleeping or when we're nervous, for example.

There is still a lot we don't know about the brain, but maybe one day we'll be able to understand how someone is doing from their brainwaves.

Capacitor

I didn't realize the human body is always sending out invisible signals.

Inductor

Once sensor technology becomes advanced enough, we may be able to notice things about our body that we never noticed before!

Sensors are the key to a healthy lifestyle?!

Professor

So? Did you come up with exciting ways to use it?

Capacitor

If sensors can tell us our body's condition...

Inductor

That means sensors can tell us when we aren't feeling well, right? Even if we haven’t noticed yet!

Capacitor

Oh! Maybe we can use it to prevent traffic accidents.

Professor

Great idea!

Sensors can check on us before we drive. We might be able to decrease the frequency of accidents if we find out we are more tired than we thought and take a short rest, for example.

Equipping sensors to chairs or other nearby objects can make them easier to use in the car or at the office.

Inductor

People get pretty tired or build up stress while working, after all.

If we could see that person's condition as data, other people could maybe lend a helping hand too!

Professor

Exactly.

By the way, vitals sensors are being used at Expo 2025, as well.

Sitting on a chair measures your heartbeat, letting the Wonder Stone sense that heartbeat as well.

We use vitals sensors for that measurement.

Inductor

Oh... Expo 2025...

Capacitor

About that...

Professor

What is it? Why the gloomy expression? Is this related to why you're feeling down?

Capacitor

Well... We looked all over the place and managed to find tickets to Yumeshima.

Capacitor

But it looks like we dropped them somewhere.

Professor

(*Gulp*)

Inductor

I looked along the road I always take, but I couldn't find them.

I wonder if someone picked them up and took them...

Professor

(*Double gulp*)

Inductor

Huh? Professor, your vitals are going crazy.

Capacitor

That's quite the heart rate. Why did it suddenly get faster when we started talking about the tickets...?

Inductor

Don’t tell me, the place you were planning to go was...

Professor

......

Capacitor

It's reacting strongly...

Professor

I-I see.Vitals sensors can also be used like a lie detector...

Inductor

...Professorrrr!

Professor

S-Sorry! I couldn't help myself...

Inductor

You can't just keep things for yourself if someone else lost them!

Capacitor

Oh, so Professor had the tickets.Whew!

Inductor

Jeez...But I guess the three of us can go to Yumeshima together!

Professor

Three?

Capacitor

I had three tickets and I dropped one of them.

Inductor

That's why I was feeling down, but it turns out Professor was...

Professor

Y-You're too kind...I'm sorry! I won't do it again!

Capacitor

Okay, let's get going, then!

Inductor

Oh, I just remembered something.

There's apparently a Virtual Expo, too. It's separate from the one in the real world.

If you can't make it to the event in person, try going to the Virtual Expo. It should be great!

Professor

Who are you talking to?

Inductor

Just myself!

The Wonder Stone can be experienced from 04/13/2025 to 10/13/2025 at the “Better Co-Being” signature pavilion of Expo 2025, held at Yumeshima!

“Virtual Expo - Yumeshima Islands in the Sky -” is a virtual space that anyone can enter through the World Expo App. You can enjoy it with your smartphone or PC..

Summary

A vitals sensor is a sensor that can detect things like heart rate and breathing, and can turn your health conditions into data!
Also, make sure you turn in lost items that you find, and don't just keep them for yourself!
